Comic Book Quick Reviews - 8/22
Yeah bringing this back! SPOILER WARNING!
America’s Got Powers #3 (Image Comics)
Is great that this book is back on track…considering how last issue ended. So we deal with the fallout from all of this in the form of new and interesting plots rising and also the introduction of a new team of characters.
Perhaps is the reveal at the end that made it worth the wait as we are shown that Tommy’s powers is actually to give powers to anyone! I just hope we don’t have to wait months until the next issue to come out.
Green Lantern: New Guardians #12 (DC Comics)
And so the first story-line ends with…not so much of a bang really. We get some reveals as to why Sayd sent the rings to Kyle but it was for the most part out-shadowed by Invictus appareance.
The fight was really lame as he was such a great powerhouse that in the end it took the Weaponer taking his ship away to weaken him enough for the Lanterns to take him down. Now that this team is done, hopefully the next team of “New Guardians” are better in the upcoming story-line.
The Amazing Spider-Man #692 (Marvel Comics)
The big 50th anniversary issue starts here and…..it was some sort of a letdown. So most of the book focused on the introduction of Alpha, whom at the very core is pretty much a new Peter Parker….but with none of the responsibility. So in the end is up to Peter to train him (since it was due to him that Alpha got his powers), which ends in Alpha becoming a jerk. I see obviously where this is going since is supposed to contrast and show why Peter is Peter, yet this character is not so great and I don’t know if the Jackal showing up at the end for part two is the greatest idea….
….the rest of the book had two small stories. The first one had some guy picking up Peter’s costume after the famous “Spider-Man No More” story-line and well learning in the end that is not the costume that makes the hero. In the second one Peter pretty much is having a bad day that end up being good by him spending time with this kid that was bullied because he said he was Spider-Man’s best friend. Both stories were good and good options for the anniversary issue.
The Flash #12 (DC Comics)
Another great issue of the Flash this month as it prepares the War of the Rogues for the Annual next week. It was great to see how the different factions of Rogues come together (Glider and her team, and Cold and his team) while Barry is in the middle of all and with a man dying in his arms.
It was interesting to see how Barry is dealing with all the changes around and also it was interesting to see him reacting that way to Glider….also I want to know more about her powers. Can’t really wait for the Annual.
